PinDex PinUp Strips was part of Vancouver's Artropolis 2001 Exhibition and reviewed in the Richmond Newspaper.
The series "PinDex PinUp Strips" explores the concealed realities of marijuana grow operations, escorts, and phone sex operators in Vancouver, just beyond the public eye. Contrasting 1950s Pin-Up photography with contemporary index cards, reminiscent of those accompanying processed film, the artist delves into the sequential placement of images. Each index card offers a glamorized peek into hidden aspects of the city's culture, presenting a softer image of traditionally taboo subjects. The juxtaposition of Pin-Up aesthetics serves as a guide to unveil scenes of current underworld activities that coexist, often unnoticed, in our neighborhoods. The work draws parallels with pulp fiction novel covers and true crime magazines, evoking a sense of a dark underworld while captivating the viewer's imagination.
